Recently on paulbain.co.uk I uploaded a little tool that let you know when you could signup for UKNova.
UKNova, for those of you who didnt read the other post, is a bittorrent site which allows you to download programs shown on UK television. Their rule is that the programs available are not commercially available to buy.I realised the little java appliaction I created wasnt the most user friendly, so I started thinking about how to make it easier to sign up, so I created a little php script to do the same thing. Now all you have to do is enter all your details on the page and it should do the rest.
I would like to stress that this was more of a scripting exercise for me rather than finding a way for people to signup more easily. paulbain.co.uk is in no way affiliated with UKNova. Please read and agree to the conditions of UKNova before using this signup tool, available here.

Cool stuff! Maybe you could supply the php script aswell for people so they can use it on their own sites…

Yes thats the plan, however there are a few things I have to think about in terms of security.
I will tidy it all up and release it!
Comment by Paul — May 15, 2006 @ 6:01 pm
I cannot thank you enough. My laptop blew up in June and I decided to order a Mac, tricked out with all the bells and whistles. In the time it took to arrive my UKNova account with its lovingly nurtured ratio expired under the 42 day rule, leaving me v upset. Everytime I’ve tried to rejoin, well, you know what happens. Whoever you are, thank you, thank you thank you.

CAN YOU SET THIS UP FOR OTHER TORRENT SITES?????
Comment by diggz — October 15, 2006 @ 4:28 pm
Probably, which website did you have in mind?
Comment by Paul — October 16, 2006 @ 10:23 am
Wow! It took me only 1 minute! Thank you thank you thank you!
Comment by dreigemuese — October 21, 2006 @ 12:06 pm
My first attempt at registration failed as I put in a username with over 12 characters. Maybe you could impose this limit yourself in the script.
Comment by A Shrubbery — October 30, 2006 @ 5:17 pm
This is a great tool you made, certainly helped me.
Comment by Joe — December 1, 2006 @ 6:49 pm
Just keep getting a message saying it can’t connect
Comment by Usman Bello — December 3, 2006 @ 6:27 pm
Hasn’t worked for me yet since it keeps stopping after a few minutes saying it could not access the site. So I’m restarting it but no luck yet
Comment by midvale99 — December 3, 2006 @ 6:56 pm
“Sorry, you’re not qualified to become a member of this site.”
How rude.
Comment by CrumpFace — December 15, 2006 @ 9:30 am
Yup, that does sound strange. I haven’t seen that one before. Wonder why its doing that. If anybody else has the same problem, let me know!
Comment by Paul — December 15, 2006 @ 10:59 pm
Yes, I got the “not qualified” message a couple of times today. Random thought - is the script not setting all the “I agree” tick box parameters?
Comment by Malcolm — December 18, 2006 @ 2:24 am
It is setting them, well it was, maybe they have changed them?
Comment by Paul — December 18, 2006 @ 12:25 pm
I cant test it because it would take up a space, anybody having a problem?
Comment by Paul — December 19, 2006 @ 6:28 pm
Good script - they cancelled my account. not very polite given I had a decent ration as far as i can recall
Comment by utopiated — December 25, 2006 @ 2:39 am

Been trying for weeks to sign up but to no avail! Came across your site and used your sign up tool, have been waiting for over 5 hours, is that normal? Should I keep waiting or should I try again?
Thanks
Mandy
Comment by Mandy — February 17, 2007 @ 9:52 pm
That does sound a little unusual, however Saturday is a busy day, either keep it running or try again Monday.
Comment by Paul — February 17, 2007 @ 11:25 pm
Hey, i’ve been trying for a while now coming, up to 4 hours. Any idea why its not working?
Comment by Andy — February 18, 2007 @ 5:06 pm
Hi Paul, I’ve been trying since February 15th but I’m not having any luck with it. Yesterday I had a session of 30+ hours and it ended with a “page cannot be found” in the top frame.
Could it be that they changed something?
Comment by Ian — February 20, 2007 @ 4:04 pm
Hi, I have had other people with this problem, I also talked about this on: http://paulbain.co.uk/2006/04/18/uknova-signup-tool
Looks as if they arent allowing any singups at all at the moment. What may have happened is that they have reduced the number of allowed users, and it will take a while for enough people to be purged before they allow signups again.
Hopefully they will allow more soon.
Comment by Paul — February 20, 2007 @ 6:47 pm
Cor - after 2 x 30 hour sessions no joy - looks like they’re pretty full.
Pretty annoying cos I had a whopping ratio on there but forgot to login for 30 days!

Comment by RobO — February 21, 2007 @ 12:37 pm
Yeah, I had a great ratio too but didn’t log on and lost my account.
Comment by David — February 21, 2007 @ 3:02 pm
Yer it’s annoying when you loose your place. I had a good ratio, and lost my account. However, there are ways you can artificially improve your ratio. I could write a post. Not really fair tho if people do it to just boos their ratio, rather than recover one.

I have been emailed the link for the sign-up tool but when I click on I get taken back to the email box again, which tells me to check my emails. And so it goes round and round.
Help please

Hi Helen
Yor email has been sent, please check it isnt in junk mail. I have checked the mail server this end and it’s not there so it did send.
If not you can try again in 24 hours.
Comment by Paul — April 23, 2007 @ 8:51 am
my signup just failed after over half an hour staring at the screen. I was told that a 5 letter password was too short, but given no chance to change it.
Comment by zardoz — April 23, 2007 @ 6:05 pm
Hi Paul,
I’m really excited about this service and I signed up for it today but have yet to receive my e-mail. Could you check to make sure it has been sent? I have checked both my inbox and junk mail. Much appreciated!!
